NFL vs. NCAA football
by Brian Jackson on 10.13.2005
I know no one probably goes to this site anymore, and even if you do you are probably not interested in football...but I feel the need to adress this. I am sick of everyone trying to say that college football is more exciting and overall better than the NFL. This is totally not the case, and I shall explain why.

First of all, the NFL consists of only the top players from college. The overall talent level is far better because it is only the best of the best players in the nation, while college is a level below it. Because the NFL talent level is so high, it makes all teams in the league fairly equal in terms of talent. This makes every game more interesting, and the outcome is always unpredictable. Since all the teams are so close in skill level it all comes down to the coaching. There is generally a lot more close scores in the NFL than in college generating a lot more excitement. Almost all games in college football are complete blowouts, where one team is completely overmatched. A very low percentage of the games have the drama that NFL games do. Some college teams have a huge recruiting advantage and this creates dominant teams. The NFL works hard to keep the teams pretty even.

Second, the playoff system in college is rediculous! They never lagitamately decide who is the national champion. There can be 5 or 6 undefeated teams at the end of the season, and still only one of them is the national champion based on stuff like strength of schedule. There is no playoff between all the good teams, there is just one national championship game based on polls. I can never feel good about there being a clear best team each year. In the NFL it is pretty clear. To win the national championship, a team pretty much has to beat all the top teams in the league first.

Lastly, the overall gameplay in the NFL is more exciting. No team in the NFL is really limited to one dimensional attack on offense, and every team can play defense to a certain extent. There is a much better balance of gameplay, and nicer plays. In college, most of the teams are one dimensional, and in a lot of the games, there is a score on almost every possesion. It takes the fun out of watching it if neither team can play defense sometimes.

Overall, I like and watch both the NFL and college football. But I find the NFL to be a much better choice of entertainment, and I've met many people who don't feel the same way. So, here is my reasoning why everyone should like the NFL more.
